A portion of the Huckleberry Trail between the Uptown Christiansburg/Mall entrance and Merrimac is now open to the public, effective March 12, 2026. This newly reopened section extends the accessible trail from the Uptown Christiansburg/Mall entrance from 1 mile to approximately 1.7 miles and provides access to the restrooms at Merrimac and the Coal Mining Heritage Park.
The section of the trail between Merrimac and Hightop Road, which includes “Bridge 2” and “Bridge 3” on the map, remains under construction and is closed to both pedestrians and cyclists for the duration of the project. Due to the nature of the work, no detour is available. At this time, the anticipated reopening of this portion of the trail is late April.
