Public Notification: Montgomery County Board of Supervisors To Meet, Receive Public Comments Virtually

by Jennifer Harris | Mar 27, 2020
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors to complete April 2 and April 13 meetings virtually.
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors FY2021 Proposed Budget and the Proposed Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Rates Public Hearings are scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2020, at 6 p.m., and 6:15 p.m., respectively.

Declarations of Emergency have been made at all levels of government including Montgomery County.  A disaster exists which requires the County to assure continuity of government for a period not to exceed six (6) months.  During a declared disaster,  the Code of Virginia requires and allows governing bodies to conduct their meetings in manners which are consistent with providing continuity of government and in a safe and healthy manner, and for the public safety, health and welfare of the governing body and all attendees/interested parties consistent with open government.
The COVID-19 virus makes it impractical and unsafe for the Board of Supervisors to physically assemble in one location. The virus also makes it impractical and unsafe, as well as potentially life threatening, for the public, and the County staff, to gather in the same location to participate in the upcoming FY2021 Proposed Budget Public Hearings scheduled for April 2, 2020, at 6 p.m., and 6:15 p.m., on the Montgomery County FY2021 Proposed Budget and the FY2021 Proposed Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Rates (which are not proposed to change).

As a result, the meeting will be conducted virtually. None of the Board members will be present; however, the public can provide comments and participate as follows.
Due to concerns related to the COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve established the following ways for you to share your public comments with the Board. The deadline to share your comment is 5 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2020. Any comments received by that time will be shared with the Board of Supervisors, and will be added to the meeting minutes, making them a matter of public record. When providing your public comment, please be sure to provide:
1. First Name
2. Last Name
