9/6/2017 - County's Finance Team receives award for 30th consecutive year

It started approximately 262,992 hours ago. That's 10,958 days, which equates to 30 years, including eight leap years. 1987 is the first year that the Montgomery County Finance Department received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

2017 marked the 30th consecutive year that the finance team in Montgomery County has received this highest form of recognition in financial reporting and governmental accounting.

"I'm proud of our talented and conscientious staff and the fact that Montgomery County as a whole is dedicated to being fiscally responsible with the tax payers' dollars," said Craig Meadows, County Administrator.

"While each employee takes this responsibility very seriously, our staff in the finance department is always on alert to make sure that we are being fully transparent with how dollars are spent and making sure that everyone adheres to related policies and procedures."

The award was given to Montgomery County again this year for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2016. The CAFR was judged by an objective panel of national governmental finance professionals to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate the County's financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
