Parks & Recreation

Montgomery County Parks and Recreation serves Montgomery County, Virginia. We offer youth athletics, aquatics, community, outdoor, and senior recreation. Additionally, we have a variety of parks and facilities available for outdoor recreation.

Please note that for youth athletics, Blacksburg and Christiansburg residents must register with Blacksburg Parks and Recreation and  Christiansburg Parks and Recreation, respectively.

Parks & Recreation Commission 

The Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Commission is composed of citizens in the community that serve as an advisory board to the department in developing leisure activities and programs for residents of all ages. Read recent minutes and upcoming agendas.

Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Montgomery County Government Center and are open to the public. Individuals interested in joining the commission should check for vacancies on the commission and apply.

Registration for the New River Valley Senior Games is open! This year's games take place April 27-May 5 and Radford Parks and Recreation is the host. The sign-up packet is at https://bit.ly/senior-games-2025 (Clicking this link will take you to Radford's website.) The deadline to sign up is March 28, 2025.

About the games

The 2025 New River Valley Senior Games are open to athletes age 50 years and above as of December 31, 2025, who reside in the New River Valley (NRV) or are members of one of the hosting recreation departments. The NRV is defined as the Town of Blacksburg, Town of Christiansburg, Floyd County, Giles County, Montgomery County, Pulaski County, the City of Radford, the Town of Wytheville, and Wythe County.
