To be an Officer of Election in Montgomery County, you must be a citizen of the United States and registered to vote in Virginia.
In our state, the polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. As an Officer of Election, you must be at the polls from 5 a.m. until the polls close, and until the Statement of Results and all closing tasks assigned by the Chief Officer have been completed.
A general training session for most elections is mandatory. In addition, training on use of the voting equipment and the new laptop-based electronic pollbooks may be required. We schedule the training at various times and locations around the county and you may attend any session that fits your schedule and location. The training schedule is announced six to eight weeks prior to elections.
Election Officers are paid $125 for the hours worked on Election Day ($150 for the Chief Officer), plus $25 for each training session attended.
